Google Docs

At first when I read this assignment, I thought for sure that I would be creating a resume from scratch using the Google doc template considering that I have been teaching at the same school for the past five years. Luckily, I remembered that I had to create a resume for a class I took in the spring semester so all I had to do was make a few updates and up load it right into my Google docs.

While I was in Google docs I started to look at all the documents I actually had in there. I started to noticed that none of them were my own. I had many lessons downloaded from teacherspayteachers.com. I love being able to save something to google docs at home, go into school and print it out, and have it whenever I need it. I don't know why I have never used this program before to save my documents that I have created for school to use there. I now feel very silly for dragging my laptop back and forth just to print at school. In fact I am currently working on my grade levels back to school night packet and saving it to google docs would not only help me, but I would be able to share it with other teachers.

I was very excited to learn how I can publish documents that I create to the web. In fact, it might be a great idea to publish that back to school night packet to the web and include a link to it on our school web page in case parents misplace theirs. Because I am currently teaching Kindergarten I can't think of many ways that my own students would need to be using google docs themselves. However, I think this would have been great during the year I taught 5th grade. When my fifth graders needed to type up something, it always seemed to take forever because there was limited laptop time when we could get enough for the whole class. It would be wonderful if the students could save their work and pick it up for homework on their home computers.

If I was to apply this assignment in the ways I described, I think it covers three of the ISTE NETS T Standards. First, if I was able to implement the use to Google docs into an upper grade classroom I could see it relating to standard three of "Modeling Digital Age Work and Learning" because we would be working towards helping the students grow. They would be able to show there parents what they are working on in school and get help not only from their teacher but from their parent as well. I also think in the age we live in with younger and younger kids getting into texting and Facebook it is always important to "Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsiblity". Students would be responsible for what they put out there in terms of their work. It is a good lesson to learn early in life. Finally, I feel like I have "Engaged in Professional Growth and Leadership" just by thinking in terms of applying the use of Google docs to my every day life at school. I will use this application much more now that I have learned to use it the way it was intended.

All About Me!

Hi I'm Jessica!

I am currently in my fifth year as a Kindergarten teacher in Leesburg VA. I love what I do and I am (on most days) thrilled to go to work. My school has morning and afternoon Kindergarten so I have around 50 students.

Outside of work I tend to think I am a pretty boring person. I have recently gotten married to my boyfriend of nine years. We were married on August 4th in Georgetown after a romantic proposal in Paris last summer. When I have the time I really love to cook. I have been Gluten Free for about three years and I enjoy learning to prepare food in different ways. I have a little addiction to social media. I am always checking Facebook and Pinterest  for new ideas for school or recipes.
